MPs Confirm Appointments of Dorcas Oduor and Beatrice Askul

The National Assembly has greenlit the nominations of Dorcas Oduor and Beatrice Askul for the positions of Attorney General and East African Community Affairs Cabinet Secretary, respectively. This approval follows their vetting last week, and they are now poised for swearing in.

Minority Leader Junet Mohammed introduced the motion, praising the nominees’ suitability and understanding of their roles. He highlighted Askul’s extensive experience in social governance and Oduor’s distinguished 15-year career as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Supporting the nominations, Nyando MP Jared Okello expressed his confidence in their capabilities to drive progress in their respective fields. Gatanga MP Edward Muriu vouched for Oduor’s deep familiarity with the Attorney General’s chambers, emphasizing her journey through its ranks.

During her vetting, Oduor emphasized her extensive experience, spanning over 30 years in the State Law Office and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where she currently serves as the Deputy Director. She stressed her involvement in high-profile cases and policy formulation, underscoring her readiness to address the evolving legal landscape and uphold public interest.

If confirmed, Oduor will make history as the first female Attorney General in Kenya, marking a significant milestone in the country’s legal and political landscape.
