Residents of Mokowe, Lamu West, were left stunned on Sunday morning after a General Service Unit (GSU) officer allegedly shot his wife and young daughter before turning the gun on himself.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m., with neighbours reporting the sound of gunshots before discovering the tragic scene. Authorities believe the incident may have followed a domestic altercation the night before.
County Commissioner Wesley Koech confirmed the deaths, noting that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and motive.
This is the latest in a series of incidents involving police officers, renewing concerns over mental health within the force. The National Police Service has set up a counselling unit to support officers facing psychological distress.
